What Makes A Good Teacher

Marie F. Hassett was definitely right when she said that good teaching has to do with attitude towards students, the subject, and work, more than knowledge and skills. In my own experience this has been true. You could be the most knowledgeable teacher but be boring. You wouldn't have the same effect on students the same way that a teacher who really draws their students in and captures their attention. Personally, I am drawn to teachers who you can see their passion in what they're teaching. A teacher could be really passionate about a subject and yet it may not come across, that's where the students attention could get lost because if their own teacher seems to not like the subject then why should they care? Information sticks in your head better when you have a good teacher. And when information sticks, you get better grades, you like the subject more, and then may pursue something in that area in the future. Whew, good teachers matter a lot!
    In the alternative school program that I go to, many people are close with teachers. There are 5 of them to teach K-12 so I have had some teachers for 7 years! In the grocery store, everyone (who goes to a regular school) will run and hide if they see a teacher. The people at my school, will run towards and say "Hi!". They are important people in our lives and so caring. A good teacher cares about their students and will do anything to help them succeed in class and in life. When you feel like a teacher cares about you and expects great things, then you will give them quality work and quality thoughts, you will give them creativity and your best work. If a teacher doesn't expect much out of you, because of a past reputation for not doing your work, or whatever else, then you may not give much.
