Freire and Gatto

Freire and Gatto would agree that school isn't meant to encourage creativity and individualism as you can see when they say,
"The aim... is simply to reduce as many individuals as possible to the same safe level, to breed and train a standardized citizenry, to put down dissent and originality."

"The capability of banking education to minimize or annul the students' creative power and to stimulate their credulity serves the interests of the oppressors, who care neither to have the world revealed nor to see it  transformed"

They would also agree on the fact that school is boring to the students and the teachers.
"Boredom was everywhere in my world, and if you asked the kids, as often as I did, why they felt so bored, they always gave me the same answers"
                                              - Gatto
"The teacher talks about reality as if it were motionless, static, compartmentalized, and predictable. Or else he  expounds on a topic completely alien to the existential experience of the students."
                                              - Freire
Gatto's paper focuses more on the system of school and where it came from, what it's true purposes are, etc, and Freire's is more about the student-teacher relationship and what can be done to make it better.
